VCDS is proud to close its 2009-2010 season with “Hair: the American Tribal Love Rock Musical”, directed by Jackie McClelland, with musical direction by Tara Litvack, and choreography by Mariana Gurgis.
Hair tells the story of a tribe of young adults caught in the countercultural zeitgeist of 1968, as they muse about love, politics, drugs, sex, and the Vietnam war. Claude, their leader, toes the line between friendship and romance with his roommates, Berger and Sheila, while coming to terms with his draft notice. He struggles with the desire to join his friends in the anti-war rebellion, ultimately plagued by indecision. Set against the colourful backdrop of New York in the 1960s, Hair explores contemporary issues with humour and irony through the powerful medium of rock, pop, and soul.
50% of proceeds from this event will be donated to Youth Without Shelter, a Toronto-based emergency residence and referral service serving youth aged 16-24 (http://www.yws.on.ca/).

Every year the Hart House Theatre hosts a series of festivals, including the annual U of T Drama Festival.
Over 70 years since its inception the UofT Drama Festival, now in its18th year since its revival, continues to provide a showcase for up and coming theatrical talent. This year also marks the 9th Festival of only accepting original student written plays; serving as a much needed outlet for UofT playwrights. The Festival also serves as an accessible avenue for UofT students to perform and direct on the Hart HouseTheatre stage.
